Individuals and organizations could be fined as much as VND500 million for violations of construction regulations beginning September 9, according to a newly issued circular of Ministry of Construction.

Those who continue to build illegally after official suspensions of work would be subject to fines of VND300 million-500 million ($16,850- 28,000), said the circular.

Owners of construction works under that cause accidents or other problems would only be fined from VND10 million-15 million ($560-840) so long as authorities are informed within 24 hours.

Contractors who build without using proper covers and enclosures to shelter passers-by would be fined from VND1 million-30 million ($56- 1,690).

Constructions that exceed space limits or other boundaries would be demolished, according to the circular.
